The design of
these pieces is based on a poem "The Animals of the Forest" by the German
poet, Go the. Although the King of Beasts, the lion, is portrayed
as the King in this set, the most important piece is the sly Reynard the
Fox, shown here as the Bishop.

A very large and
impressive set of chessmen inspired by statues, tombs and artifacts in
and around the famous Westminster Abbey in London. The King is in
early coronation robes, whilst the Queen is shown at her prayers.
The Bishop is symbolically casting out devils and the Knight is St. George,
Patron Saint of England, slaying the evil dragons.
